2008 Winter PlayLAB Staged Reading Series
Thank you to our audience and players. Princeton Rep Company/Princeton Rep Shakespeare Festival presented its 2008 PlayLAB staged reading series in partnership with the Princeton Public Library, 65 Witherspoon Street, Princeton, NJ and sponsored by Miller, Porter, Muller & Gaynor on three winter Sunday afternoons.
January 13, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. "Signs of Life" by NJ playwright Deborah Brevoort. A comedy with magic about two dreamers in love on a road trip out of NJ in pursuit of a hoped-for life they can't seem to make together. Time and again they lose what's come before as they try to make sense of signs along the way. With Elaine Williams & Peter Aguero, directed by Todd Reichart.
January 27, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. "Blue/Orange" by Joe Penhall. In a London psychiatric hospital, an enigmatic patient claims to be the son of an exiled African dictator. As the drama unfolds, his story becomes unnervingly plausible. An incendiary tale about race, madness and a Darwinian power struggle. With Post Midnight, Keon Mohajeri, and Todd Reichart, directed by Victoria Liberatori.
February 10, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. "Shylock" by Mark Leiren-Young. A Jewish actor playing Shylock comes to give a talk-back to the audience after his production of "Merchant of Venice" is closed because of controversy. An irreverent riff on political correctness, the purpose of art, and the role of the audience. With Moshe Silver, directed by Victoria Libertori. We open with a comic curtain raiser, "Hamlet: Condensed, Somewhat Altered, and Slightly Rearranged" by Lawrenceville, NJ summarizer Bill Waters.
All readings were presented in the community room of the Princeton Public Library, 65 Witherspoon Street, Princeton, NJ 08542.
